Day 1. Done chasing the paper for a bit.
Early this morning I said goodbye to my family & flew from Ottawa to Vancouver to start a little trip. Meeting up with some friends to do a bit of hiking around the west coast.
Nice flight, beauty to see some majestic mountains poking up through the clouds. Nothing more humbling than that but the North Pacific sea that followed shortly after. Such impressive landscape in British Columbia.
Sat beside a nice girl and had some good chat on the plane. Landed, Skytrain over to pick up some keys off a buddy's friend. Heading there kicked off the journey with some true randomness that stuttered my brain for a second. I hopped on a bus for a few blocks, as I got on there was room beside a girl who also had a couple large bags. "Big trip" I said. "Yes" she responded. "Coming or going" I asked. I recognized the accent and inquired about her home. She told me the Czech Republic. I smiled and asked where. She told me Liberec! I couldn't believe it! I said "my Girlfriend is from there!" I belted out my girlfriends name & her sisters! And it turns out she knows of her sister! A town of 103,000 (ish) and I'm speaking with this girl randomly on the bus over this comment. Life is so random in numbers.
This somewhat reminds me of something that happened to me this year that I thought was worth sharing.
My last 14 month backpack journey started in Lisbon Portugal, where I met Nuno & Andre at one of the local skate(board) shops in the first few days of roaming the city. Good dudes for sure. Then about 2 years later I'm hosting a Couchsurfer named Micaela from Lisbon. (If you've never heard you can check it out here. www.couchingfing.org) Micaela was showing me some gifts she had bought for some friends back home. After she returned home to Portugal she gave the gifts to her friends which led into some more conversation about her travels in Canada. Their conversation led to her time in Toronto and attending the Gilles Peterson show at the Great Hall in Toronto with Some friends & I. Those toys she showed me at my place now weeks before, they were for Nuno & Andre. A few people on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean randomly speaking about the same person in another country in organic conversation. Crazy math, right there…
After a little roaming the neighbourhood for some eats I'm sitting in my man Dave Race's couch while he's back home in Toronto with a big patio window showing the clouds revealing Cypress & Strachan Mountains. Pretty epic day i'll say sitting here listening to some choice tunes on this great old record player. followed up by some lightning & rain to help me get this post up. Thanks for the keys to your place DRace, hope all is good in Toronto.
14 days and I'll be in prague to see the nejsladší holka (sweetest girl).
Looking forward to my first visit to Victoria, British Columbia tomorrow night.
